African Conservation Experience

African Conservation Experience can organise your voluntary placement in Africa, working with big game and marine animals.

The placements

Volunteers work in close association with biologists, conservationists, wildlife vets and reserve managers on a variety of projects. These include:
  • Game capture for tagging and relocation
  • Behavioural studies on lions and hyenas
  • Game counts and monitoring
  • Veterinary work
  • Rehabilitation
  • Whale and Dolphin Research

You will also have the opportunity to experience the thrill of sleep-outs in the African bush, to learn a wealth of information about African ecology and to gain first hand knowledge of how game and nature Reserves are run and maintained.

You are fully supported throughout your placement. Flights, transfers, meals and accommodation are all arranged for you and contact is maintained throughout your stay. Past volunteers have said they appreciate being treated as an individual, rather than just as a booking.

Countries/locations

  • Botswana
  • Zimbabwe
  • South Africa

If you are concerned about the political situation in Zimbabwe, you can discuss it with African Conservation Experience. The area they work in is very close to Victoria Falls, which is free from any trouble at the moment, and they monitor the situation closely.

How long?
