Camps International work with local communities to decide what needs to be done, so project work can vary throughout the year.
The placements
Your day will start with a walk through the beautiful African bush to the Stephen Kanja primary school. You will be greeted by scores of hungry nursery children who are waiting for you to get breakfast started. One of Camps International projects is to give nursery children breakfast to improve their concentration levels during the day.
Camps International are currently working on bringing a fresh water supply to the school which will also benefit the surrounding villages.
Teaching, desk building, tree planting and general interaction with the students and the communities are all part of life while staying with Camps International at Mukurumuji.
After an exciting and challenging day at the school you will return to the camp which is situated at the foothills of Shimba Hills National Reserve and is named after the Mukurumuji River which flows through the property. Buffalo and Elephant can often be seen grazing on the other side of the valley. Longer stays include safaris, beach days and a visit to the Elephant Sanctuary. Additional beach breaks and safaris can be added to any trip and will be priced on request.
