Different Travel

Different Travel offer volunteer on community development and conservation projects. All projects are run by local people, for local people.

The placements

Combine the comfort and relaxation of a high quality two-week trip, with opportunities to spend time working on development projects in the developing world and experience, learn and contribute in ways traditional holidays cannot offer. The range of Open Charity Challenges combine traditional fundraising challenges - such a trek or a long-distance cycle ride - with work on much needed development projects in host countries.

The projects vary from country to country. They might include:

  • the construction or refurbishment of a school, library or home for elderly people
  • teaching English to orphaned children
  • sharing job skills with isolated communities
  • rehabilitating endangered animals into the wild
  • planting an organic vegetable garden

The projects make a difference to the communities visited and make a difference to the people who travel - who get more out of their experience because they have the opportunity to give something back.

In addition, with strong ethical and responsible travel policies, it is ensured the trips don't exploit either the environment or the local people and are carbon-neutral.

About Different Travel

The Different Travel Company was founded as a direct response to the Asian tsunami with the specific intention of offering people interested in ‘voluntourism’ - an opportunity to combine high-quality flight and transfer inclusive holidays, with volunteer work on projects in the developing world without compromising on ethical, sustainable, standards. DTC’s strict environmental and fair-trade in tourism policies mean that all trips are ‘carbon neutral’ and that only hotels who respect the environment and their staff are used.
