Pioneer Expeditions will give you a unique experience of a culture, country and/or a physical challenge.
The expeditions
Pioneer Expeditions aims to give everyone a chance to get away from mass adventure tourism. The unique trips are run for a limited number of times to ensure that any impact on a local community is positive. This gives the expeditions a fresh and distinctive feel and ensures when we meet local people they are not seeing the same tour for the tenth time that year. Most trips have an expedition aim (which is achievable) and this will give career breakers many new skills even if it's only how to sleep in a tent in a wild camp! The physical and mental challenges of being somewhere remote and alien can lead people to discover that they have new- found confidence in themselves plus a huge feeling of achievement.
On each expedition, Pioneer aims to be the first group to achieve an unusual objective or particular mission. Canoeing a river from source to sea, climbing a remote mountain, swimming a volcanic lake, trekking a glacier or traversing a tropical island are some of these objectives.
Examples of expeditions include:
- A polar expedition through Greenland, sleeping in the snow in a tent, and looking out for polar bears
- A camel trek through the Omani desert with at night by the light of a full moon
- Trekking the deepest canyon in the world in Peru
