Career Break Site February newsletter
HELLO
Welcome to the Career Break Site’s February newsletter. We have been mostly spending the month looking for excuses to stuff our faces (Pancake Day, Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, National Chip Week…) in an effort to cheer ourselves in the absence of sunshine. We’ve managed to wipe the crumbs off our mouths long enough to bring you some career break news, special offers and whatnot though. If you start planning now, you could be off by June, so get cracking!
FEATURED COMPANY
African Conservation Experience runs some great volunteer projects in Africa where you can learn how to track elephants, study dolphins and work with local communities – great stuff to put on your CV! They have given us some case studies of people who’ve been there and done it.
Read highlights from career breaker Kirsty’s diary
Read the story of Silvia, who was 66 when she volunteered (then send this link to your mum).
SPECIAL OFFERS
Don’t forget our special offers pages where you can get money off or see ‘buy now, pay later’ deals:
NEWS
According to the Tories (so you can take this with a pinch of salt), 2.8 million people in the UK don’t have enough work to do. That’s on top of the unemployment figures, and the recession is to blame. If you’re underemployed, a career break might just give you the boost you need to get a better job on your return. If getting enough cash together is a concern (which it is for most career breakers), get help from our money section.
News from our pals in Ireland: almost 2,000 public health staff are currently on a career break (thanks to a government scheme which pays people to take a sabbatical). If you think we should have a scheme like that in the UK, email info@thecareerbreaksite.com and tell us what you would do with it.
FINALLY
A Happy St David’s Day to our Welsh readers.
