Travelling on your career break can be the most exciting thing you ever do.
There are loads of different ways you can travel - and many career breakers combine travel with something else, like volunteering, courses or paid work.
- Round-the-world (RTW) flights are a great way to see the world without spending too much money. Much cheaper than buying individual flights, a RTW ticket will let you travel through lots of countries within a time frame, and they're generally pretty flexible too.
- Other flight options include continent passes, if you're keen on seeing one particular region, and open-jaw tickets (where you fly into one place and out of another).
- Overland travel or adventure travel generally involves being in a small group tour. This is not only a great way to make friends, but it also means you can go off the beaten track safely. Many trips include activities, like adventure sports, cultural visits, hikes etc, and often involve staying in some unusual and out-of-the-way places.
- Expeditions are often part of a volunteer project - trekking into the jungle to clear paths, for example, or leading a team of volunteers on a rural conservation project.
Of course, you can combine these however you like, so you get a variety of experiences and see lots of places without it getting too expensive! Remember to travel responsibly, and with an open mind. You'll have an unforgettable experience.
