Ethical voluntary work abroad
There are a lot of gap year and career break companies offering voluntary work abroad. But how do you know that the company is ethical?
Firstly, use this site to search for your volunteer organisation. We are the only site in the industry which promises to feature only those companies we would use ourselves. We also encourage feedback from our users (that's you!).
Secondly, don't be afraid of asking questions. Good voluntary work abroad organisations encourage questions from volunteers, and are happy to answer any you might have. Questions you might have include:
- Where does the money go?
- How do you ensure the project is sustainable?
- What involvement do local people have?
- Can I speak to a former volunteer?

- Travel events and shows
Finally, try to meet the people from the organisation if you can. Many exhibit at travel shows and some have open days.
Remember, the vast majority of organisations that offer voluntary work abroad are reputable, and do some amazing work around the world.
